November 28, 2025 — Jinks Crow, P.C., along with Beasley Allen Law Firm, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the family of Abimael Feliciano, a Dothan resident who died after toxic fumes filled the inside of his Ford C-Max Hybrid.
Feliciano was found unresponsive inside his vehicle at a traffic light in Dothan on August 8, 2023. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences later confirmed that he died from hydrogen sulfide exposure, a toxic gas that can be deadly even in small amounts.
Further investigation revealed that a battery vent tube inside the vehicle had become detached, which allowed dangerous fumes to build up in the cabin during what should have been a normal drive.
The lawsuit, filed in Arizona, names Ford Motor Company and several dealerships as defendants. It claims that the vehicle contained serious defects and that the repairs, warnings, and safety protections meant to shield drivers from toxic gases were not sufficient.
Attorneys for the family say this tragedy could have been avoided with basic safety measures that should be standard in vehicles using hybrid battery technology. The complaint states that Ford failed to design or communicate safety features that could have prevented gas from entering the passenger area.
The family is seeking damages and is also committed to increasing public awareness about hybrid battery safety. Their hope is that sharing Feliciano’s story will encourage stronger safety standards so that no other family faces a loss like theirs.
